Antique French wooden steamer trunk made by Maison Au Touriste of Paris, in the 1910s probably. Covered in chestnut brown leather and bound with wooden stretchers held by steel and brass brackets. Particularly nice shaped metal corners. Brass catch and locks with the maker's name engraved on them (no keys, I'm afraid). Maker's label also on a plaque, and an embroidered label on the fabric lined interior. Leather handle on one end: the other is missing and the remaining one is very delicate and shouldn't be used. Still has its original leather straps which go under the wooden lid struts to buckles low on the front. A really super old piece of luxury luggage. Condition is pretty good structurally but there are a few cosmetic issues: the usual scuffs, marks and dings, general darkening to the leather, as expected with age and generally desirable, but then there are some patches of leather missing on the left side and the top has had some splits filled on it (see pics). The fabric inside is a bit worn and there is a stain on the bottom. Also the side handles as previously mentioned. Still a handsome piece and great as a coffee table or side unit for a lamp etc. Dimensions: 92cm x 53cm x 53cm
